Garden triumphs and disappointments

Roadside sweet corn, ‘Sungold’ cherry tomatoes and jalapeno peppers!  Ahhh, harvest!

My little neighbor likes to come over and help me garden so I gave her a ‘Sungold’…. she said “that’s the best tomato I’ve EVER eaten….  and I don’t like tomatoes!”.  High praise!

While the plant has been the least prolific of my tomatoes, it’s fruit is definitely more like candy!

My husband and I had our first BLT with my ‘Brandywine’ heirloom – which one slice covers the entire slice of bread!  Actually I used kale, my husband used lettuce!

A huge disappointment was my ‘CupCake’ squash.  First, I planted it in a container in the front of my home mixed in with my perennial bed.  It turned out that no bees were pollinating it!  I hand pollinated it, which is on an earlier garden bite and I had 2 beautiful specimens growing.

THEN I took a vacation and the plant didn’t get water properly… it died.  Okay, but I had 2 more growing in my raised bed!  Off to the bed to see how they were … and THIS is what I found…

I may just give up on these…  I have great tomatoes and peppers!

A big problem some Master Gardeners are talking about is the abundance of anthracnose this year due to our heavier rains.  Learn more by clicking on Anthracnose.
