Show Date: 19 Jul 10
Much to the chagrin of “Lawn Lords”, those people who must have a perfect lawn, mushrooms will make an appearance in that manicured lawn.

Japanese Inky Cap

That’s mostly a good thing.  It means there’s decaying organic matter in your soil and those fungi are feeding on it.

There is one type of fruiting fungi that you don’t want.  Fairy Rings.

Fairy Ring mushrooms

Fighting Fungi

Show Date: 12 May 10
Some people eat it, I fight it!  It’s Fungi……  well, a lot of other people fight fungi and don’t even know it.

Powdery Mildew

Powdery Mildew and Blackspot disease are just 2 of the MANY types of problems gardeners battle.

Start spraying a fungicidal soap and treat with wettable sulfur.  You could use a chemical called Daconil but I prefer something more organic.

Rose Diseases [University of Minnesota]  this is a very informational site with great pictures!

Fruiting fungi

Show Date: 20 Jul 09

Got ‘shrooms? In your lawn, that is. Where there’s been heavy moisture including excessive irrigation, you’ll find those fruiting bodies.
There’s usually nothing wrong with your lawn. It just means you have decaying organic matter that the fungi can feed on.

If you find dark green circles in your lawn with brown spots in the middle, that might be Fairy Rings. Here’s more information and what to do about them.
