The Autumnal Equinox happens at 8:30 tonight central time. Or maybe 9:04pm. Oddly, this is the first time I’ve found 2 times in the same time zone.
Bottom line is, the equinox, equal day/equal night will happen at the exact same moment all over the world.
The sun crosses the celestial equator moving south, signifying the start of the colder months of the year for the Northern Hemisphere. (And the warmer months of the year, or spring, in the Southern Hemisphere.)
The first day of Fall just makes me want to wear flannel and sit outside by a bonfire! And enjoy these asters.
I just love this time of year. Crisp air flowing in through open windows for good sleeping and looking forward to delicious locally grown orchard apples.
Many orchards offering a whole lot more than bags of apples. They’ll even take the work out of it for you with fresh pies and other pastries, caramel apples and some even have petting zoos!
I love the fall colors, although this year, 2022, we’re not seeing much for color change yet, but it’s coming. As of Sept. 18th, 2022, the red maple below is still all green. You can see this photo was taken Sept. 25th, 2020.
As you celebrate the autumnal equinox and begin your nesting routine, reflect on the season and think about the things that worked and those that didn’t so that you can plan for next year.
I will mention we still have time to plant trees and perennials but stop planting evergreens! It’s okay now to enjoy that Pumpkin Spice Latte you really wanted a month ago! No one will tease you now.. Or is that just me? I’m already thinking about the harvest soups I’ll make, the pie possibilities and more.
