Click below to listen to my 2 min. Garden Bite radio show/podcast: A 2023 AAS winner that’s an Angel
All America Selections judges have chosen an Angel for a 2023 winner. Leucanthemum ‘Carpet Angel’. The first-ever groundcover Shasta Daisy as well as the first-ever AAS Winner from this breeder! Green Fuse Botanicals’ First Light Perennials.
Large 3-inch flowers boast a second inner frilly bloom adding to the unique look of Carpet Angel. It grows to just 6 inches tall but boasts a spread of 20 inches making it a lovely groundcover!
Fantastic branching on this winner means more flower stems to produce beautiful pure white blooms that look like angels dancing over a carpet of dark green foliage. Oh that sounds delightful.
A little deadheading of spent flowers will reward you with even more blooms. Hardy in zones 4a-10b. ‘Carpet Angel’ will grow in full to part sun, handles “normal” watering and, clearly needs no staking. You can grow ‘Carpet Angel’ in a container, use it as a border or edging plant and it’s popular with pollinators!
One judge noted, “The performance is exceptional, surviving many challenges that proved too much for the comparison”. Shasta Daisy ‘Carpet Angel’ will be available in plant form only this year.
I’m currently looking at my window at large snowflakes falling profusely in windy conditions! That’s not the “carpet angel” I was hoping for!
HA, I think I’ll wrap up today’s Garden Bite with a pretty annual I hope to be planting this spring, which is SCHEDULED for March 20th! I love African Daisies and Proven Winners is introducing Bright Lights Horizon Sunset this season 2023. Flower therapy for sure! Heat tolerant plants with large salmon orange and lavender blue daisy flowers.
