My local gardener friends are giddy. The 2022/23 winter was long but finally we’re on the other side with warm temperatures and drought conditions over, our local garden center flowers are on full display. Aisles of pansies and violas, petunias and impatiens, snapdragons and more coming out every day!

It takes years of trialing at various locations to finally introduce a new plant to the public although accessibility may still be a bit challenging!

Some highlighted annuals for 2023 include one I’ve talked about earlier this year and have started from seed. Coleus Coral Candy is also an AAS winner for this year. The multi-colored foliage handles sun or shade.

There’s a new petunia called ‘Itsy Magenta’. This purplely pink  beauty grows 12 inches tall and 25 inches wide.

It might be a bit difficult to find but worth a look.

Begonias are blooming big this year! I found several. Lunar Light ‘Sterling Moon’ is spectacular.

It grows 2 ½ ft tall and about 2 ft. wide! Perfect for part shade containers or right in the garden. ‘Sterling Moon’ has puckered leaves that are frosted with silver and mint-green flecking. The flowers are Salmon-pink.

Launching this spring is the new Hula series, a unique spreading type of begonia that’s highly branched with loads of small flowers and high-impact color. It’s fastest to flower and fastest to fill. Hula comes in 4 colors, Pink, Red, Blush and Bicolor Red White.

Fantastic trailing out of hanging baskets but could also be used to spread out and fill empty spots in your garden beds.

And take a look at the new i’Conia ‘Lemon Berry’!
