National Farmers Market week starts on Sunday! I LOVE Farmers Markets. There’s one every Saturday in my hometown along the River. Directory to US Farmers Markets

Fresh produce, flowers, handmade goodies and so much more!!! Artists and musicians and delightful treats of the edible and non-edible abound.

There’s also a farmers market a couple of blocks over taking place during the week. I bought beets and apple bread last week!

Microwaved with butter and salt & pepper = delicious

And zucchini and onions and fresh flowers!

Farmers markets have GROWN exponentially as so many realize the bonus of fresh, locally grown, locally sourced food. Fresh food ALWAYS tastes better.

I know many folks who buy in larger quantities so they can preserve vegetables, make sauces, jellies, jams and more! Our local economies flourish and we find communion with those buying and selling. Farmers markets offer surrounding communities a chance at healthy food too.

Local artists adding to the ambience. It’s a chance to speak with those creating and learn more about their process. Adriana creates all of these designs, traveling to Mexico and other parts of the U.S. to find the “ingredients”, if you will, for her creations.

There are huge farmers markets in major cities. You can find produce and such that you may never have encountered.

My friend, Melissa, is the owner/grower and flower arranger! Oops, I didn’t notice her eyes were closed… the other woman is part of the Vintage Band Festival!

Comment on my Facebook page about what different types of food YOU have found. Did you try it? Did you buy it? What other experiences have you had at Farmers Markets?

This line from the University of Minnesota Extension really sums it up: When you shop at a farmers market, you help stimulate local economies; preserve farm or urban growing land and associated livelihoods; increase access to fresh, nutritious food; and support healthy communities.
