Hostas get a bad rap sometimes. I have a friend who hates them. Well, all she had were the plain old green ones. But there are SO many more! Colors, textures, sizes and shapes.

The 2021 Hosta of the Year for one! Shadowland ‘Wheeee’! It’s as fun to look at as it is to say! This delightful hosta has extremely ruffled foliage.

Its green leaves have cream margins that widen as the plants mature, and the leaves are thicker, making them more slug resistant. Light lavender flowers appear midseason. In part shade to shade, Shadowland Wheeee grows to about 18 inches tall with a 28 inch spread. This hosta will definitely add texture and character to your landscape!

But wait, there’s more, hostas that is. A new gold variety is called ‘I Dream of Jeanne’! She’s large and in charge at 24 inches tall by 4 ft wide!

The leaves emerge greenish-yellow and brighten as the season progresses. Pure white flowers show up in early summer. ‘All Aflutter’ will make your heart skip a beat. Starting with blue-green leaves with a feathered yellow margin, they are rippled and twisted.

By late summer the leaves turn green with white margins. It’s only 13 inches tall but with a 3 ft. spread.

For something completely different, try ‘Bud Lite’ and I’m not talking about the beer, although a cool beverage in the garden is always a delight! This upright hosta offers shiny medium green foliage on dark red petioles.

The flower scape is speckled with red which contrasts nicely with the flowers. Reddish-purple buds open to nice purple flowers. It grows 18 inches tall and 28 inches wide.
