I was perusing topics for today when I came across a caladium that screams Christmas! Since this IS Christmas week, I really wanted to share it. Heart to Heart “Mesmerized’ by Proven Winners is SO festive with various shades of greens and reds along with splashes of white in each leaf. This is definitely your Thriller in a container, growing to about 20 inches tall with a 14 inch spread.
Another Christmasy caladium is called ‘Fiesta’. The leaves are white with wide red veins and thin green edging all around. This one grows 12 inches by 12 inches and would look lovely in a container with ivy draping down.
‘Gingerland’ is a lush beauty with white leaves splashed with splotches of red and rimmed green. Check this one out to grow indoors also!
‘Creme Brulee’ is NOT a Christmasy caladium but it IS very eye catching as it’s really different from most of the caladiums I’ve seen. Creme Brulee is a newer fancy leaf introduction from Classic Caladiums that features a light green color in the center and then stretches outward to broad reddish-bronze margins.
It’s tall with large leaves. As I mentioned, caladiums CAN be grown indoors but they aren’t easy! They are tubers and come from the Elephant Ear family, similar to a colocasia.
I moved mine away from my sliding window where the sun was scorching it’s leaves. They prefer medium light but DO need humidity.
This tuber plant, just like the caladium, can go down in my basement and be brought back up in spring! What do YOU think of these beauties?
