Great tools are the gardeners best friend. Great, QUALITY tools are even better! When I first started gardening, I bought the cheapest pruners, loppers, trowels and even shovels.
Well, that was 20 years ago and I’ve spent a lot more money on replacing those tools that fell apart or simply didn’t do the job I needed them to do! I talked about some of my favorite tools last week, today I’ll share a few more.
One tool that you might not think of that way is a collapsible garden bag. After a decade of use, I asked for a replacement for my 30 gallon Fiskars kangaroo collapsible bag. I used it, abused it and got every inch of use.
When you’re planting, pruning, putzing, it’s perfect. As for raking, yes, it works for that too, with those leaves composted.
I just purchased this Bosmere collapsible bag with a hard bottom and more reinforcing inside! I can drag it all over and not worry about busting holes in it! Yes, it was more expensive!
Another newer tool I started using is my Dramm color-point compact pruners and shears. This year they’ve come out with the Colorpoint cutting, bypass PRO pruner! It’s a professional grade pruner with a blade adjustment gear for easier maintenance, fits your hand well and comes with a lifetime warranty!
While I love my dad’s old knife, my next purchase will be that Hori-hori knife, which is Japanese for “dig-dig.
This soil knife is one of the most versatile tools you can have in the garden. Its wide blade is perfect for transplanting young plants and weeding, and it can also be used to divide perennial plants, open plastic bags, cut twine and more.
I am SO looking forward to this gardening season! What about YOU?
