Oh wow, I came across some new annuals for 2022 from plant breeders in a trial by Costa Farms! A new begonia called ‘I’Conia Scentiment Peachy Keen’ is from Dummen Orange, a plant breeder out of Ohio that I’d never heard of. Well, they’re all over the world! Their slogan “Uniting the world through the language of flowers”.

It’s mounding foliage carries striking, frilly two-toned double flowers of orange and peach that cover the entire canopy. Simply stunning.

Ball Flora has a new coleus called ‘Spitfire’. Just when you think there just can’t be any more variations of coleus, there is!

Coleus ‘Spitfire’

It is a distinctive standalone variety with lanceolate cascading green and pink leaves. It is part of the Flame Thrower series but grows to half the size, is well branched, adaptable in sun or shade, and maintains it’s color. This will be an excellent coleus for small mixed containers.

Calibrachoa is a wonderful annual and Dummen Orange introduces ‘Rainbow Parisian Pink’. It’s multiple colors of pink in it’s blooms vary with sun/shade, moisture and temperature conditions.

THIS next annual will set off all these other very colorful annuals is a white salvia. This was one of the most floriferous plants in the trial — with long, velvety white inflorescences rising above the green foliage.

OKAY… one more… it’s a petunia called ‘Headliner Banana Cherry’ and it’s from Selecta One.

‘Banana Cherry’ blooms have yellow throats, white centers and burgundy and maroon margins. It has outstanding vigor and loads of flowers.
