The plant breeder, Proven Winners, analyzed the most sought-after annuals from nurseries who purchase seeds and/or plugs of plants to grow for their upcoming season and came up with some predictions for the most in-demand Proven Winners annuals for the spring of 2023.
Supertunias tops the list and they happen to have a brand new one called ‘Persimmon’.
First, Supertunias are petunias with more vigor and a more mounded habit. ‘Persimmon’ flowers have yellow throats that ease into a beautiful reddish pink at the outer edges. It’s a continuous bloomer, drought and heat tolerant and has a 36 inch trailing habit.
Another new Supertunia for 2023 is ‘Mini Vista Yellow’.
They grow vigorously and are absolutely covered in cheerful blooms from spring into fall.
You can even try them in your sunny landscape where they’ll put on an impressive show of color all season. The outstanding yellow SCREAMS hello!
A very popular plant for growers AND hummingbirds this year will be an award winning cuphea hybrid called ‘Vermillionaire’.
Also known as a large firecracker plant. The tubular flowers are orange with red and yellow highlights. The plants grow about 2 ft by 2 ft. and have heat and drought tolerance.
The blooming continuously through the season and are great in hanging baskets or containers. They thrive best in full sun. Sunflowers are hot once again this year. Proven Winners offers up Suncredible Yellow helianthus. It would make a great thriller in a container planting.
