If you want spring to midseason bulbs to plant this Fall, you best get to finding some. At the nursery where I work, customers were asking weeks ago when our bulbs would arrive. They have arrived and already many have been sold! 2022 is another booming year for bulbs.
Daffodils and tulips, crocus and fritillaria. Snowdrops and squill, hyacinth and allium. Whew, and so many cultivars in between!!
We plant these bulbs generally in October before our fingers freeze.
Planting depths differ with the particular bulbs. Be sure to follow the directions on the package.
Some cool choices for 2022 include ‘Ballroom Fringe’ tulips from Holland Bulbs.
The fringed edges of this cream colored tulip are shades of orange, peach, yellow and apricot. It’s really pretty.
‘Alison Bradley’ is a double tulip with a rich burgundy color and blooms early in the garden.
It’s hardy to zone 3 and grows to about 12 inches.
Here’s an odd little tulip. It’s called ‘Crispa Purple Tower’ .
It’s literally a towering fringed tulip.
A new double hyacinth is amazing. It’s called ‘Eros Double’.
Hardy to zone 4 it attracts butterflies to your garden with the gorgeous double white and pink blooms and enjoy the heavenly fragrance! Not only is the Eros Double Hyacinth beautiful, it’s also deer resistant!
And just for fun, take a look at the ‘Monarch Orange’ crocus. This one is unique among early blooming crocus.
Tomorrow I’ll give you much more information on planting these bulbs
