Hear that? The sound of flushing… those ugly brown bugs have been appearing in my bathroom, kitchen, my office… UGH. So what’s up?
Stink bugs have been enjoying the warmth of my home, and likely yours too. Bugs make their way indoors through gaps in your house. Mine was built in 1897, there are LOTS of gaps! They can come in through eaves or your attic. But MOST of the time, they’ve gone dormant.
Just an FYI:
Once inside, they just hunker down like tiny bears; but if you turn up the heat or they feel the warmth shower and/or kitchen oven, they wake up and start moving. You’ll notice how easy it is to catch them. They’re pretty lethargic. Indoors right now they really aren’t DOING anything. They’re not laying eggs, they’re not interested in biting or doing anything at all, just waiting for Spring so they can get outside and do what they do.
But who wants to see them? I don’t. So, either squish ‘em and risk a bit of a stink, flush ‘em, toss ‘em outside where they’ll die or leave them be. Those stink bugs just aren’t my jam… now, spiders I leave alone!
I’ve also seen lethargic flies, suddenly dead Asian lady beetles and those icky tiny insects that were all over my screens last summer. UGH. They apparently made their way in but are dying and gathering in the windowsill.
Sealing up your house in the warmer months will help next winter!
